'I Believe In God The Father Almighty' (Deuteronomy 32:1-7, Romans 8:12-17)
Rev. William L. Barron, February 18, 2024Part of the Morning Worship at North Greenville Church series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
We have a personal relationship with God, the father. God is transcendent. He is the omnipresent and omniscient one. In Genesis 1, we are told that God created earth and heavens in six days with one day of rest. We are limited in what we can make. Creation is unique unto God. Mankind is created in his image. Man is given dominion and stewardship over the Earth. We see errors in our time. People claim that the world is self-created. People say the Earth was always present. We know from scripture that God created the heavens and the earth in six days, from nothing. We are not to be judgmental toward others. A philosopher by the name of Heidegger came up with the concept of thrown-ness. This is the process by which objects and lives are thrown into being. We are thrown into chaos until we die. We, however, believe in a great God, a personal God, but still an almighty God. He has not told us everything. Our lives are based on the Rock, which is the words of Christ. If we reject God as creator, we must ask where we come from? What are we? Why do we have two sexes? If there is no God, then abortion, suicide and euthanasia are good possibilities. All that remains is situational ethics. This brings lawless and anarchy. In verse 5 we see mankind dealing corruptly with God. Adam and Eve, and all succeeding generations, have been crooked and twisted. There is a second creation, however, in which mankind becomes new creatures in Christ. Jesus has adopted faithful people unto himself. We are taught in Romans 8 that God is in control of all things; there is nothing outside the control of God. God establishes order and morality. Those who are against God, atheists, are described in scripture as fools. Idolatry is the lot of those who reject God. John Calvin describes our hearts as idol factories. God defines love, which is characterized by a giving spirit. God is the creator, the sustainer and the revealer. We remember God and Moses. at the burning bush. Moses asked by what authority he should return to Egypt to proclaim God's message to His people. God answered , "I am who I am" sends Moses. We become adopted members of God's family. Man has three objectives to God's sovereignty. One is, can there anything that God cannot do? The answer is that He cannot act contrary to his nature. The second is, "Is God's power limited by the free will of man or by creation? The answer is yes and no. Because of the Fall, man always chooses wrongly. In Christ, we can choose right, and yet God never takes away our responsibility. How he does this is His secret. The third objection is the question of evil. Why does God allow evil? We brought evil into the world, and evil never goes unpunished, yet according to God's timetable.

Deuteronomy 32:1–7 (Listen)
32:1 “Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak,
and let the earth hear the words of my mouth.
2 May my teaching drop as the rain,
my speech distill as the dew,
like gentle rain upon the tender grass,
and like showers upon the herb.
3 For I will proclaim the name of the LORD;
ascribe greatness to our God!
4 “The Rock, his work is perfect,
for all his ways are justice.
A God of faithfulness and without iniquity,
just and upright is he.
5 They have dealt corruptly with him;
they are no longer his children because they are blemished;
they are a crooked and twisted generation.
6 Do you thus repay the LORD,
you foolish and senseless people?
Is not he your father, who created you,
who made you and established you?
7 Remember the days of old;
consider the years of many generations;
ask your father, and he will show you,
your elders, and they will tell you.

Romans 8:12–17 (Listen)
12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
